GreenStar Council News for April 2022
HeatSmart Tompkins recognizes GreenStar’s heating system
In April, GreenStar was recognized by HeatSmart Tompkins with an Earth Stewardship Award, for installing air source heat pumps in the new store at 770 Cascadilla Street. This was a member-initiate effort as part of the building of that store, and GreenStar is now a leader in commercial heat pumps.
GreenStar’s Next GM coming soon!
The GM Search Committee is nearing the final round of interviews in the search process. This month, Council will meet with its final candidates in the search, the third round of interviews in a process that began in January. We expect to have a GM hired by the end of the month, with that person starting later this summer.
Highlights from the April and May Council Meetings
In April, Council met to take care of some housekeeping items: the board voted to extend the deadline for its policy governance transition to the end of 2022, and also appointed a new staff member to the ad hoc GM Search Committee.
Council also accepted two financial reports, submitted by the Interim General Manager: B.1 – Financial Condition & Activities FYE Monitoring Report and B.2 – Planning and Budgeting FYE 2021 Monitoring Report. Both reports were found to be in compliance with the exception of one sub-policy each, which will not be in compliance until the co-op begins to generate a profit once again. Management has a financial stability plan in place, which works toward this goal by year’s end. Council is working closely with management to ensure its success.
In May, Council convened to approve several proposals, including one to amend the Council Elections and Appointments Procedure and the recently adopted Vote Counting Procedure for additional clarity, in preparation for the Fall 2022 Council Elections.. Council monitors its own performance regularly and did so in monitoring Policies D.0-D.5 this month. As part of this process, the board will require itself to adhere to a more rigorous monitoring schedule of the Co-op’s General Manager.
