The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County
The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County provides resources and supports people across Tompkins County who have been impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Founded in 1977, our core values are rooted in feminism and the grassroots battered women’s movement of the 1970s. This groundwork has guided us in offering services that meet the needs of our ever-changing community, and we currently offer a variety of direct client services and educational services.
Our services are offered to clients of all ages who have been impacted by domestic and sexual violence. For those in immediate crisis, we provide a 24/7 hotline, housing at our confidential shelter, accompaniment to Cayuga Medical Center for Sexual Assault Forensic Exams, among other services. Those who reach out to our agency can also be connected with an advocate to navigate legal procedures and the court system, obtaining orders of protection, joining a support group, or with other needs they may have. All services are free of charge and confidential.
Our education team engages with the entire Tompkins County community, tailoring different programs to youth, college campuses, and the general public. These educational services aim to ensure that people are aware of our services when in need, while also taking a proactive approach to discussing topics linked to domestic and sexual violence.
Our goal is to support those who have experienced the trauma of domestic and sexual violence, but also work towards a society where people do not commit these violent acts. By combining direct client services with comprehensive educational initiatives, we aim to empower our community and create lasting change.
