GreenStar Council News for August 2022
Last Call for Council Candidates
It’s not too late to run for GreenStar Council! The deadline to submit a Council candidate application is September 1. There are four Council seats open for the coming election.
This is a very exciting time to serve on Council. Our comprehensive policy review will be completed by December. We will start the new Council year with a clean set of updated policies freeing us to begin the important work of strategic planning and future visioning with our New General Manager.
If you haven’t already, take a few extra minutes to catch-up on the “Getting to know Council” series, currently featuring Council members Eldred Harris, Pamela Coleman, and Pat Sewell.
To qualify for candidacy, you must be a GreenStar Co-op member in good standing, attend the September Council meeting scheduled Tuesday, September 13, attend a Council Information Session, and complete an application by the end of the day tomorrow, September 1st.. Read the Candidate Application Packet for details about other requirements and expectations of GreenStar Council Members, or email questions to elections@greenstar.coop.
Highlights from the August Council Meeting
At its August regular meeting, Council approved a proposal to hold this year’s Annual Member Meeting in person at the Ithaca Farmers Market on Monday, October 3rd. Please watch your inbox for more information and details!
Council also accepted the 2021 Annual Audit Report as an accurate representation of GreenStar’s financial position. The results of the audit will be printed in the 2021 Annual report, which will be available to members soon.
A resolution was approved in support of Operations increasing GreenStar’s starting wage, as well as increasing wages for all staff. The past two years have challenged us financially and we were unable to offer wage increases. Council is very pleased to offer our support for this action!

- Council monitored Policy C.4 – Council Meetings finding it largely in compliance

Come early for a Conversation with Council!
From 6:00 – 6:30 PM GreenStar members are invited to join Council members for an opportunity to engage in conversation. This 30 minute period is an “open-mic” format and will be recurring – taking place ahead of the GreenStar Council meeting every second Tuesday of the month.
