GreenStar Council News for August 2023

Last Call for Council Candidates!

It’s not too late to run for Greenstar Council! The deadline to submit a Council candidate application is this Friday – September 1. There are four Council seats open for the coming election. 

This is a very exciting time to serve on Council. Our Bylaws Refresh Initiative has begun. In the coming year, Council members will be interacting with our fellow Greenstar Member-Owners as we gather feedback and reshape our bylaws into a final draft. The final draft of the refreshed bylaws will come to the Membership for approval with the Fall 2024 Elections. More detailed information about the bylaws Refresh Project may be found here.

To qualify for candidacy, you must:

• Be a GreenStar Co-op member in good standing
• Complete an application by September 1st
• Attend the Tuesday, September 12th Council meeting
• Schedule a Council Information Session (can be held online or in-person)

Highlights from the August Council Meeting

At its August regular meeting, Council listened to a presentation from GreenStar’s August Positive Change recipient American Foundation for Suidice Prevention, and received the General Manager’s monthly report. 

All other items were new business in preparation for future Council decisions, including:

• Draft Proposal to Accept the 2022 Audit
• Draft Proposal: Investor Dividends and Patronage Rebate 
• Draft Proposal: Approve Auditor to perform the 2023 Audit
• Draft: B.4 – Member Rights & Responsibilities Policy Monitoring Report
• Draft: B.5 – Treatment of Customers Policy Monitoring 
• Draft Proposal: Scheduling the Annual Member Meeting and Approval of the Member Meeting Agenda

Come early for pre-meeting engagement with Council!

From 6:15 – 6:30 PM GreenStar members are invited to join Council members for an opportunity to engage in conversation. This 15 minute period is an “open-mic” format and will be recurring – taking place ahead of the GreenStar Council meeting every second Tuesday of the month. Email boardadmin@greenstar.coop for instructions on how to attend.
