Engage Your Curiosity at the Sciencenter – Ithaca’s hands-on science museum of families

At the Sciencenter, science comes alive through hands-on exhibits, educational programs, and community events. Whether you’re visiting with family, exploring with your class on a fi eld trip, or learning through play at summer camp, the Sciencenter is a welcoming place where everyone can experience the joy of science.

Hands-On Exhibits for All Ages
Our museum features over 250 interactive exhibits that invite visitors to explore science through play. Topics range from weather, space, and sustainability to physics, chemistry, and marine biology. Most of the exhibits are created in the Sciencenter’s fabrication shop by its team of exhibit developers.

Outside, families can enjoy our seasonal science-themed mini-golf course and the beloved Science Park. Be sure to visit our live animal habitats, home to fascinating creatures like our seahorse, axolotl, and Rhino Iguana—favorites among kids and adults alike.

The Sciencenter extends its reach beyond our museum walls by touring 11 traveling exhibitions to museums and cultural organizations across the U.S. and Canada, reaching several hundred thousand people each year on the road.

Educational Programs

We offer year-round programs that encourage hands-on learning for curious minds of all ages. Our Science Together series invites young children and their caregivers to explore science side by side through playful, engaging activities, from Flower Dissection to Ice Melting. We connect local science experts with visitors during our weekly Science Connections, Chemsations, and special programs, inspiring kids and families to learn more about the science around them.

Our Summer Camp offers themed weeks full of exploration, creativity, and outdoor fun. Campers conduct chemistry experiments, interact with animals, build engineering challenges, and journey through the solar system, all while making new friends and lasting memories.

Field Trips and Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Sciencenter is a favorite destination for field trips! Each visit includes hands-on exploration of exhibits and the option for a guided educational program. As a partner with Kids Discover the Trail!, every second-grade student in Tompkins County enjoys a free trip to the museum each year.

We also offer STEM outreach kits and educator resources that help bring science into libraries and schools throughout the region. We engage our community members from rural elementary schools at Family Science Nights. These events feature science activities and pop-up exhibits developed by our middle school Future Science Leaders.
