While we are currently asking customers not to bring reusable bags, we continue to honor our Bring Your Own Bag, Use It for Good donation commitments. Each quarter, GreenStar selects three local not-for-profits to be the recipients of our Bring Your Own Bag, Use It for Good program donations. Our BYOB program encouraged shoppers to bring their own bags by providing them with a token worth 5¢ that they can donate to one of the chosen organizations. This quarter, our recipients are the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, Ithaca Children’s Garden, and CLEAN (Cayuga Lake Environmental Action Now).

The Cayuga Waterfront Trail Initiative (CWTI) is a partnership of the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the City of Ithaca. The Cayuga Waterfront Trail is a 5.5-mile, multi-use trail providing an active, non-motorized transportation and recreation way connecting our community’s most popular waterfront destinations. The Waterfront Trail will help Ithaca develop a sustainable transportation system, enhance our quality of life and contribute to the revitalization of our community’s waterfront. It is CWTI’s goal to build one of the best trails in upstate New York.

In addition to supporting the trail through the BYOB donation program, GreenStar is a trail adopter, maintaining the section of trail running from the Buffalo Street pedestrian bridge to the Ithaca College boathouse, just behind our new store location at 770 Cascadilla Street. As trail adopters, the Co-op is responsible for keeping the trail safe and attractive — removing trash, trimming any encroaching brush and vegetation, and removing autumn leaves, twigs, or other debris that make the trail difficult to use.

GreenStar is pleased to be a part of supporting the Cayuga Waterfront Trail!
