Questions and Answers
Who is eligible to invest in the capital campaign?
Investment opportunities in GreenStar are availably only to current member-owners who are bona fide residents of New York State. Membership must be verified and proof of residency must be provided to finalize an investment.
What are the investment opportunity highlights?
Members can invest beginning in September 2026. Investment opportunities are available by prospectus only to co-op members who are NY residents. Please inquire by email or phone for specific terms of the offering.
We don't already own the Cascadilla Store?
In 2018, GreenStar’s membership voted to purchase the 770 Cascadilla building in 2030. But we don’t own the building yet; we only lease it. Owning our Co-op’s home is a momentous milestone that will strengthen our Co-op for generations to come. Our Capital Campaign in 2018 – 2019 raised more than $1.6 million in member investments to support our relocation from the former Buffalo St. store and build our Cascadilla store.
How will our Co-op raise the money needed to purchase the Cascadilla building?
GreenStar will commit cash from operations, secure commercial loans, and raise $2 million in member-owner investment shares by November 30 through our 2026 Rooted in Community Capital Campaign.
Why is it important that we own the building?
Purchasing the Cascadilla property is our best option for our Co-op’s long-term sustainability. Under provisions of our lease agreement, not purchasing the property in 2030 would trigger a $2 million penalty with no mechanism to continue leasing the building. While GreenStar would pursue every reasonable option in that circumstance, ownership provides stability, protects the community food system we’ve built together, and allows future resources to be invested in our mission rather than lease-related uncertainty.
Our Co-op belongs to us and now our store should belong to us too!
