50th Anniversary Design Contest

GreenStar Members – Vote for Your Favorite Design by May 23!

In commemoration of our 50th Anniversary,  we’re holding a Hoodie and T-Shirt Design Contest open to the public.  A committee of GreenStar staff selected the following 10 finalists among nearly 40 entries and now we need your help to determine the winning design.  The design will be printed on both hooded sweatshirts and t-shirts and made available for sale at the Co-op beginning in June. The winning artist will receive a $500 monetary prize.

How to Vote (Must be a GreenStar Member)

You can vote online. You’ll see examples of the designs on t-shirts and the Artists’ Inspiration statements. OR you can use a paper ballot and drop it in the ballot box at any GreenStar store. If don’t know your member number, please ask a cashier, the Customer Service Desk, or email membership@greenstar.coop. You can also find it at the header of a paper receipt or at the bottom of an e-receipt.

One vote per membership. Only online and paper ballots with valid numbers will be counted.

Contest Information – Contest Closed April 30, 2023.

We’re gearing up for an in-person 50(ish) Anniversary Celebration for GreenStar Food Co+op this summer. In commemoration of this important anniversary, the Co-op is holding a design contest open to GreenStar staff, members, and the general public. The winning design will be screen printed on hoodies and t-shirts and made available for sale at the Co-op!

GreenStar was established in 1971 and officially marked 50 years in 2021. Due to the pandemic, we weren’t able to celebrate with an in-person event, but are looking forward to an event in 2023 – more details to come.

Theme: GreenStar Food Co+op – Celebrating 50 Years!

Prize: The winning artist will earn $500 and a hoodie with their design!

Design Guidelines:

  • Original artwork.
  • Design will be printed on back of hoodie/shirt and GreenStar logo printed on front of hoodie/shirt.
  • Design must not use more than two (2) colors. Black is considered a color for screen printing. Any white areas in an image will appear as the apparel color.
  • No larger than 8.5″ x 11″
  • Must be submitted digitally as high resolution .jpg, .png, .pdf, .ai, or .psd file.
  • APPAREL COLOR: GreenStar recommends Oatmeal Triblend (T-Shirt) and Oatmeal Heather (Hoodie) as neutral background colors for designs. However, if you feel different colors from the palettes would better complement your design, you may indicate in your entry form those preferred colors. Please click the links above to see colors. Not all colors may be available from the printing vendor at time of order. GreenStar reserves the right for final apparel color selection.

Eligibility/Entry:

  • There is no entry fee to submit a design.
  • Only one design submission per contestant.
  • If you are under the age of 18, you may create a design, but it must be submitted on your behalf by a parent or guardian.

A Design Contest Entry Form must be completed. Files should be uploaded and submitted using the form. If your file cannot be uploaded, please complete all other sections of the entry form and email your file as an attachment to marketing@greenstar.coop. Please name files appropriately (LAST NAME_Title of Work).

Important Dates:

  • Submit your design (1 per contestant) March 15 – April 30, 2023
  • LAST DAY to submit a design – no exceptions April 30, 2023
  • Public Voting: May 9 – May 23, 2023
  • Winner will be contacted following vote. Winner announcement will follow.

Winner Selection:

Finalist designs will be selected by an internal committee based on the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Visibility – eye catching and visible from a distance
  • How well it reflects celebration of GreenStar and its place in the community
  • Feasibility – must be able to be screen printed

Finalist designs will be presented for online voting to the general public. Access to the voting form will be available at greenstar.coop/.

Fine Print:

By submitting an entry, the artist consents that it is their own original work and that they have all necessary rights and permissions to use any included elements. GreenStar Food Co+op reserves the right to make adjustments and alterations to the winning entry. The winning artist grants to GreenStar Food Co+op the exclusive right to the design, including any modifications thereof, to be used on promotional/marketing and other GreenStar Food Co+op materials.  The artist shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless GreenStar Food Co+op from and against any and all suits, actions, claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, losses and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of any violation of third party rights (including, without limitation, intellectual property infringement, misappropriation, dilution or violation) in connection with GreenStar Food Co+op’s use, distribution, publishing, sale or exploitation of the design. The artist understands they will receive no royalty payments for the ongoing use of their work. No submissions will be returned. By submitting a design, you are agreeing to all contest rules and guidelines.
