Goji Berry and Hibiscus Spritzer

Goji Berry and Hibiscus Spritzer

This recipe was submitted by Louise Adie, a GreenStar Food Co+op member since 1971! Louise shares that she has been drinking her recipe for a few years now and loves how refreshing it is. She drinks it even more in the cold season to stay healthy and the ginger really washes out the back of the throat. Goji berries  have anti-anxiety properties and combined with the hibiscus flowers give this spritzer a deep red color. Louise describes it as sweet, slightly tart, and just super refreshing.

Goji Berry Hibiscus Tea

  • 1/2 gallon water
  • 1/4 cup goji berries
  • 4 hibiscus tea bags or dried hibiscus flowers (1 tbsp. dried flowers = 1 tea bag)
  • 2 tbsp. agave syrup, maple syrup, or honey

Honey Ginger Syrup

  • 2 cups water
  • 6 tbsp. honey
  • 3/4 cup fresh ginger, thinly sliced

  1. For the tea, add goji berries, tea bags, and 2 tbsp. agave, maple syrup, or honey to 1/2 gallon boiling water.
  2. Chill the tea in the refrigerator.
  3. For the Honey Ginger Syrup, mix all ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain. Cool and store in the refrigerator.
  4. For spritzer, mix 1 part tea to 1 part seltzer (Louise suggests pomegranate) and add 2 tablespoons of prepared Honey Ginger Syrup in a tall glass (like a beer glass).
  5. To drink as a tonic, and add 1 tsp. each of apple cider vinegar and elderberry syrup

Note: You can find dried hibiscus flowers in GreenStar’s bulk herbs.
