Hawk Meadow Farm Owners and Operators, Steve and Anne

Hawk Meadow Farm, located in Schuyler County, NY near the southern edge of the Finger Lakes National Forest specializes in log-grown woodland mushrooms such as shiitake, lion’s mane, and turkey tail. The farm follows organic methods and sustainable practices to grow their mushrooms and produce medicinal tinctures with a variety of health benefits.

What is a Tincture? A concentrated liquid herbal extract made by soaking herbs and other plant parts in alcohol for weeks to extract the active constituents. Alcohol is considered an excellent solvent because it is food grade and can extract herbal constituents (such as resins and alkaloids) that are poorly soluble in water. After a period of weeks, the herbal mixture is strained and the herb parts are removed, leaving behind concentrated liquid. You can read more about Hawk Meadow Farm’s mushroom tinctures here.

How Do You Take a Mushroom Tincture?

Turkey Tail mushrooms growing on a log.

Hawk Meadow Farms recommends a dropperful (about 20 drops or 1/4 teaspoon) a day for maintenance. They work best when taken every day. You can safely take more than a dropperful if you are having symptoms that the mushroom can help with when necessary. You can take the tincture directly, or add to any hot or cold beverage. The solution has an extended shelf life that does not need to be refrigerated.
