January 2025 Positive Change Recipient – F&CS of Ithaca

A Note from GreenStar:  Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca was selected by GreenStar members to be among our twelve 2025 Partners for Change. F&CS of Ithaca is the January Positive Change recipient.

Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca (F&CS) is an organization created from the 1958 merger of the once closely aligned Ithaca Children’s Home and the Family Society of Ithaca. Our origins date back to the establishment of the Ithaca Children’s Home in 1885 which was made up of two programs–a residential home for both orphaned and destitute children and a day nursery. The Family Society of Ithaca was the primary resource in the community providing family and marriage counseling, a reputation still enjoyed today.

Today, F&CS provides a wide range of services that include mental health care to children, adults, families, and seniors, EAP services to local businesses, targeted outreach to vulnerable youth and other community members in need of support, as well as community mental health education to professionals and the general public. We employ over 40 mental health counselors and 4 psychiatrists, with a robust clinical internship program to help train future mental health providers in Tompkins County.  Our Open Doors program is one of the few places homeless and runaway youth can turn to in Tompkins County.

Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca supports residents of Tompkins County, across all ages, with programs specifically serving children aged 0-5, teens, adults, and seniors. We provide services to people from all walks of life, gender, sexuality, and economic status.

Community support like GreenStar’s Partners for Change program fills the gap in funding for programs like Open Doors, DAP and our Mental Health Clinic.  Our services strengthen the fabric of Tompkins County.
