GreenStar Council News for July 2024
Run for Council!
A competitive, robust election ensures a healthy democracy for our Co-op and helps Greenstar remain a viable cooperative enterprise. Council represents you, and serves to ensure the Co-op adheres to our collective values; Council serves to ensure the Co-op thrives. Ideally, Council would be as diverse as the community we serve. A democracy is strongest when it considers the broadest range of voices.
This October we have the opportunity to reinvigorate Council through the democratic process of elections. The Council Elections committee is seeking potential candidates throughout our community who are interested in serving on Council, particularly with experience or knowledge in: business finance, strategic planning, human resources and labor relations, grocery industry, and/or experience serving on other boards.
This year there will be 6 open seats, each with 3 year terms: 5 Council member’s terms are expiring at the end of 2024 and there is currently 1 vacant seat. Candidate Application Packets are due September 1st, Council Elections are October 1 – 31. If you would like more information please contact Council Elections at: elections@greenstar.coop.
If you are curious, but volunteering for Council seems too big a step, consider volunteering to serve as an at-large member on a Council committee!
Highlights from the July Council Meeting
At its July regular meeting, Council received information from The Learning Web, GreenStar’s July Partners for Change recipient, and received the General Manager’s Monthly Report.
Council also approved the following proposals:
- Policy B.1 Financial Condition Policy Monitoring for 1.Q.24
- Policy B.3 Asset Protection Policy Monitoring
- 2023 Annual Audit
- Amendments to Policy C.7 Council Committees
- CFNE Loan Refinance
Council reviewed the following New Business items:
- Policy A Ends Policy Monitoring
- Patronage Rebate – Investor Dividends
- Amend Council Procedure: Vote Counting

Come early for pre-meeting engagement with Council!
From 6:15 – 6:30 PM GreenStar members are invited to join Council members for an opportunity to engage in conversation. This 15 minute period is an “open-mic” format and will be recurring – taking place ahead of the GreenStar Council meeting every second Tuesday of the month.
