GreenStar Council News for May 2023
Celebrating more than 50 years of Cooperative Values and Community Support
This June marks GreenStar’s 52nd year, and we are celebrating our longevity with a 50-ish celebration on Sunday, June 25th, from 1 – 5pm at our West End store (770 Cascadilla Street). As we prepare for the event, I am reminded that we have much to celebrate. In addition to celebrating more than 50 years of cooperative enterprise supporting local producers and the local economy, we are also celebrating GreenStar staff and more than 12,000 members, without whom GreenStar would simply not be! Please join us for a day of member engagement with local vendors, live entertainment, staff, Council and your fellow member-owners. Council members will be present at our booth and throughout the event. We hope to see you there!
Highlights from the MayCouncil Meeting
At its May regular meeting, Council listened to a presentation from Food Justice Projects, GreenStar’s May’s Partners for Change recipient, and received the General Manager’s monthly report.
Council also approved policy amendments and proposals, including:
- Approved the April 2023 Council Meeting Minutes
- Approved the Policy B.2 – Planning and Budgeting Monitoring Report
- Approved C.3 – Council Work Plan Policy Monitoring
- Reviewed as New Business
- Proposal: B.3 Asset Protection Policy Monitoring
- Proposal: Approve Amendments to Online Meeting Procedure
- Proposal: Amend Decision-making and Meeting Rules Procedure
- Update: Bylaws Review and Revision

Come early for pre-meeting engagement with Council!
From 6:15 – 6:30 PM GreenStar members are invited to join Council members for an opportunity to engage in conversation. This 15 minute period is an “open-mic” format and will be recurring – taking place ahead of the GreenStar Council meeting every second Tuesday of the month. Email boardadmin@greenstar.coop for instructions on how to attend.
