Doğa Tekin

GreenStar members have the opportunity to participate in our member labor program. Shifts are two hours long, can be a super worker shift working once per week or a member worker shift which is once per month. Super workers help in any of our stores stocking the shelves, bagging groceries, cleaning and more. In exchange they receive a 15.5% discount on top of the 2% discount.  Member workers serve on council committees and add an additional 8% to the 2% discount. Learn more about our Member labor volunteer program on our website or contact our Membership Department volunteer@greenstar.coop.

Meet March’s member -labor volunteer of the month Doğa Tekin.

Where do you hail from?

Ankara, Turkey.

How long have you been a member of
GreenStar?

For about four months.

Which department do you work for? What’s most enjoyable about your shift?

I do mainly stocking and fronting/facing at Collegetown. The shift is a great break from all else that’s going on. Stocking is very meditative.

What do you do when you’re not at the Co-op?  Care to share some of your favorite hobbies?

Belly dancing, foraging for mushrooms, and playing music! If I’m not busy with academia I am either doing these or socializing.

How did you become interested in working at the Co-op?

I’ve been meaning to become a member and volunteer for a while but it was always pretty far away.  When the Collegetown store opened I immediately jumped on the opportunity.

What’s your favorite item that GreenStar
carries in your department?

I love our tiny handmade baskets. They are perfect when foraging for small mushrooms! I also love the Buchi brand’s “Water” kombucha.

Do you have any hopes and dreams for
GreenStar’s future?

I hope the Co-op keeps thriving and wish the best for all of us who are a part of it.

What’s your favorite local spot to visit?

Six Mile Creek, between the footbridge that goes to Giles and First Dam.

Anything else you’d like to share, or
any interesting stories about working here?

I’m very happy to be part of the co-op and grateful that I have the opportunity to help.
